About Bluewex and how we write our guides
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Bluewex is a privacy scanner app for iOS and Android. It helps you check a room, a rental or a bag for hidden cameras and unwanted trackers using only your phone. This page explains what the app does, how the guides on this site are written, and where phone-based detection stops working.
What the app does
Bluewex combines four phone-based checks:
- WiFi scan: lists the devices on the network you join and flags hardware that looks like a camera.
- Bluetooth scan: finds nearby Bluetooth devices, including trackers such as AirTags, with live signal strength.
- Magnetic scan: uses your phone's magnetometer to show unusual readings over an object.
- Lens-glint check: helps you spot the small reflection a camera lens gives back to a light.
How we write and update our guides
- Each guide describes a method you can follow with a phone and a flashlight, in the order you would do it.
- We state what a method can and cannot find. A WiFi scan, for example, cannot see a camera that records to a memory card and never joins a network.
- We do not invent statistics. Where a guide cites survey figures or rules from a platform such as Airbnb, it says what the source is, and we revisit those numbers when we update the guide.
- Every guide shows its last update date. We review guides when the advice, a platform policy or an app feature changes, and we change the date only when the content changes.
Limits you should know about
No phone app can guarantee that a space is free of hidden devices. A scan reduces risk. It does not remove it. If you find a camera, do not touch it, document it, leave and report it to the platform, the venue and the police. Laws on recording in private spaces differ by country and state.
Who is behind this site
This site is published by the Bluewex team. The guides are written to be practical and plain, and they link to the related app feature when it helps. Where a guide recommends the app, it says so.
